BUNNY | Control Group

Why is this study important?

The BUNNY study is a study that will help us to understand how the tummy health of children develops in the first 2 years of life. We want to look mainly at the tummy health of children with a condition called CF. You are being asked to take part in this study as your child is HEALTHY and DOES NOT have cystic fibrosis (CF). In order to understand this issue properly, it is essential for us to compare children with CF to healthy children who DO NOT have CF. BUNNY will take place over a two-year period in 13 children’s hospitals in Ireland and the UK, after which we hope children will continue to take part in the ENHANCE study (just once per year) of which BUNNY is a smaller part.

What does this study involve for my child?

BUNNY will follow participants for two years. During these initial two years, your child will be asked to provide a stool sample monthly for the first 6 months, every second month until 12 months, and every three months for Year 2 (a total of 13 samples). You will also be asked to complete a questionnaire when the stool sample is taken. Collection of stool samples and questionnaires will be organised by the study team (we will arrange collection from your home). For instructions on how to collect, store an prepare your child’s samples for collection, please take a look at the videos below. After the first two years, your child will then continue on as part of the larger study, ENHANCE, which requires collecting a stool sample and questionnaires once per year only.

Step 1: Sample preparation and storage

Step 2: Preparation for sample collection
